Simply put, HubPages is a platform that allows anybody to write content and publish it to the web. You can create content-rich “Hubs” which are like mini-websites or web pages on a specific topic. Each Hub includes a title, text content, various sub-headings, you can include images and other interactive elements for users to view and interact with.
How is HubPages different than a blog?
Typically, someone owns a blog. When you own a blog it might be your own domain name or a subdomain of a blogging site like blogspot.com. A blog is your own site. HubPages is not your own site. You can publish content on HubPages instead of your blog – which brings us to the next question…
Why would you publish on HubPages when you can have your own blog?
Well, Hubpages because of its size and recognition has a greater standing on the internet than a blog you start up. Because of this, you can get your content indexed on google faster and potentially rank it higher on search engine result pages. This might help you monetize your content better than if it were on your own blog. With that said, that are times when you will want to focus on your own blog versus HubPages. How is HubPages different than an article directory?
HubPages has some similarities with article directories such as ezinearticles.com and goarticles.com, but here are a few differences:
- Hubs are more “content rich” versus regular articles ad directories. With Hubs, you can add images and other forms of communication (like a questionaire or poll).
- HubPages has more of a community element than article directories
- Most article directories do not offer you the ability to share advertising revenue
For these reasons, I believe HubPages is far superior to article directories.
